Would you like to sit in a cherry orchard in midsummer, mere yards from a gently flowing river, the sound of bird song and summer wind through the leaves of the trees overhead? And write about it?
Join me on August 3, 2024 for an in-person, half-day Travel Write From Wherever You Are class taking place at a working flower farm in Washington’s Skagit Valley, located an hour north of Seattle.
I’m a published writer in this niche, my lens on travel is one of observation and engagement with the people and nature of a place. I lead group outings in nature and speak about writing craft. I bring my own self as a woman, a birder, and a friend to those around me when I find stories from where I sit (or where I want to sit!).
I will guide you on how to approach writing about where you are in the same way, in your own voice, and with tools to find the story in the setting. You will learn to enjoy a place with greater sensory and social ease as it informs your storytelling on the page. And you will make new friends and understand how much an experience of a place is influenced by what we bring to what is already there.
The class will take place over four hours on the afternoon of August 3, 2024, at a private property along the Skagit River outside of Mount Vernon. We will engage in reflective writing prompts, readings, discussions, writing time, and sharing (and only if you want to share what you write). This is a craft class for deeper narrative writing on travel through connection with both a place and the people we find there.
And speaking of the setting, enjoy more photos below of this special place where we will gather. I hope to see you there!
Who this class is for: Anyone who enjoys journaling, writing missives to friends or posting to social media while traveling, reading travel memoirs, or aspires to any of the above.
What this class is not: A how-to for writing travel “listicle” style stories or instructions for breaking into travel media.
Space is limited to 12 students and price per person is $85USD.
Registration is now open on the Classes tab with additional information. Email me if you have questions! I hope to see you there!
