Bird-Tripping: How to Bring Bird Watching to Your Van Life (Aug/Sept '22 Rova Magazine)

Birder Emilie Chen, in the Alvord Desert in OR. Chen’s photographs of birds are featured in the Rova story.

Love a road trip? How about a bird trip? Four Millennial birders share their insights for adding birding to a life on the road (or Bird-tripping) for the Aug/Sept ‘22 issue of Rova magazine. Emilie Chen, Brian Chitundu, Melissa Hafting and Eliana Ardila Kramer—seasoned birders and road travelers—advise potentially bird-curious readers of this RV-traveler magazine how to get started birding, find birds and build community around birding while on wheels.

Rova targets Generations X, Y and Z for the van life, and these contributors were the perfect group to speak for their cohort. Each is a distinct birder personality on the interwebs, sharing both images and words as part of their respective profiles. Their collected experience on the road covered thousands of miles and touched on both the practical (look for wildlife refuges with driving tours for ease of car-based birding) and the virtual (most credited social media for finding other younger birders like them).

Read the full story and then dream of your own bird-tripping adventure.
